NSW

VIC

“It was great to speak with the critical team members, the owner, designer and builder, at each home.”

ACT

“It was incredibly helpful to have both the builder and the owner there to explain how it had all been done.”

QLD

“The whole family were very welcoming and happy to talk about any detail of their home and how they live within it.”

SA

“Was very informative and learned a lot. Great material and speakers. For those new to the space a demonstration of the five principles would be useful.”

WA

“It was great to be inside a passive house on a cold and blustery day. The liability is clearly so much better than a typical house. I'll definitely be building a passive house.”

Attendee - FAQ

  • APA believes in safe and respectful open buildings. The properties that are opened are often private homes. Registration provides us and the owner with a level of assurance that the process is being managed with care.

  • On average for each IPHOD we are moving around 800 people through 50-60 viewings, of 20 different properties around the Nation. To get this right, we need to follow a strict process and ensure everyone we are working with has time to receive the relevant reminders, contact lists and general information.

  • To protect the privacy of our home owners addresses are sent just before the event takes place. The events typically run on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You will recieve the first reminder the day before all tours start (Thursday) and then again the morning of the tour you are registered for.

  • Yes, but plan ahead and register them because we have strict requirements with space and moving a volume of people through the properties.

  • No, the host will have a list of names to confirm your registration.

  • If a tour states that it starts at 10 am, then it’s at 10 am based on its location’s current time zone—whether that’s daylight savings or standard time.

Host - FAQ

  • We have a pretty good database to support the event but any further help its always appreciated and good top attract new people. Some ideas for you-

    1. Social media

    2. Through your website, Newsletter

    3. Does your council have a newsletter?

    4. Does your local area have an environmental network/action group you could ask- or a Facebook Group you could post in?

    5. Does your children’s school have a newsletter / Facebook group you can post in?

  • After marketing for the events commence, hosts will be sent a weekly registration update on the Friday of each week, with the total number of participants for each session.

  • We believe in running- Safe Open Homes. To do so, we place a limit on the number of participants that a guide can walk through. For each host they can walk through a maximum of 15 participants per tour. Participants must stay within the site of the host.

  • To maximise on your participation please send us all event photos and videos. We will share them on social media to follow. We also encourage you to create educational material, add a list for registrants to add their contact details to so you can stay in touch with them. Invite other consultants to run the event with you-participants love seeing the collaboration of passivhaus.

  • Registrations close the Thursday morning before the events commence. You will receive a list of registrants for each sitting the Thursday evening.

  • While APA supports the promotion of passivhaus, we discourage the International Passvhaus Open Day events to be run seperately, andwoud suggest that this only confuses the market and dilutes our efforts to run a cohesive event as a joint community. There are many other weekends of the year that this can be achieved on.
