New South Wales-based company Blue Eco Homes has once again proven its dedication to eco-friendly design by winning not one, but two prestigious awards at the 2023 HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards, and gaining recognition as Highly Commended being a finalist in 2 other categories.

The annual event recognises individuals and companies that champion environmentally-conscious home design and construction, steering the industry towards a greener, healthier future.

Blue Eco Homes' crowning achievements include winning the 2023 HIA Australian GreenSmart Home for their Yellow Rock Passive House. The home is an energy-efficient residence that boasts full accessibility and a multi-generational design. The home was also awarded the HIA Australian GreenSmart Custom Built Home which was jointly awarded by COLORBOND steel. When asked about their win the company expressed their excitement and shared their belief that Passivhaus was the future of building.

“Very proud and honoured to have received 2 awards at the 2023 @HIA Australian GreenSmart Awards held in Melbourne on Friday evening. As we bask in the glow of this achievement, let's remind ourselves that the road to a better tomorrow isn't always the easiest one, but it's undoubtedly the most rewarding.”

“The YellowRock Passivhaus is a very real example that sustainable, accessible, multigenerational & BAL40 homes don’t need to be just a box or mundane but rather a modern, sleek and they can be an award winning home. The future of building is here, and it's undeniably Passivhaus.”

This year's win makes it the third time that Blue Eco Homes has won the HIA Australian GreenSmart Home of the Year, highlighting their passion and dedication to improving Australia’s building practices.

Within the Yellow Rock Passive House, you’ll find several innovative features including cross-laminated timber panels which create a thermal-bridge-free lift shaft. Blue Eco Homes also implemented their own prefabricated wall and roof system based on the Passive House principles.

Other features that contribute to the energy efficiency of the winning home include triple-glazed windows, heat recovery ventilation, and robust insulation. The home also operates semi off-grid thanks to a 15kW solar PV system and a 28kWh battery as well as a 120,000-litre water tank alongside a host of other sustainable features.

With this third win, Blue Eco Homes continues to set new benchmarks for the sustainable building industry, inspiring others to build homes that respect both the environment and the needs of their occupants.
