Joe Mercieca continues to lead the way with his sustainable innovations.

The Blue Eco Homes team actually developed their own prefab panels, FAB-FYV, which meet PHPP standards.

Respectful of the natural environment, the team focus on low environmental impact both for construction and during the building’s life.

This is the fifth time Blue Eco Homes has won the Australian Greensmart Professional Award. Joe Mercieca is also Co-Chair of the Australian Passivhaus Association.

“Winning the HIA National Sustainable Building Award is an incredible honour for Sowden Building Solutions. This recognition reflects our commitment to sustainable practices and a huge recognition for PassivHaus the way forward for building. We are passionate about building not just homes, but a greener future for our children” said Nick S

owden, winner of the HIA Australian GreenSmart Renovation/Addition Project Award.

This small inner Sydney house was transformed into an EnerPhit. The complex renovation included a third floor expansion, half-demolishion of the existing house to remove a thermal bridge. Smart choices around efficient finishes, fittings and MVHR created a healthy, comfortable, living environment of PassivHaus EnerPHit Plus standard; far from the original draughty 1884 house.

Nick Sowden also represents the Australian Passivhaus Association in various advocacy forums and is a part of our Retrofit Committee.

“This year we have been honored to receive 10 nominations as awards finalists in the Master Builders Tasmania awards night. Over the last 7 years our team has dedicated itself to educational improvement across all areas of business and on site delivery. To another stellar year ahead we continue to grow as we strive for excellence in customer service and healthy home construction across our beautiful island.”

Zanetto Builders are based in Launceston, Hobart and St. Helens. They complete an average of ten high-quality projects annually, with their team of 25 including 8 apprentices, with their Passivhaus certification and proven track record of excellence in residential buildings.

Davies Design and Construction won Master Builders Tasmania’s Residential Energy Efficiency Award, along with five other awards.

“Hats off to the team for a massive year. Focus on people first and build the best quality products in your industry and let the rest take care of itself.”

“This remarkable project stands as a testament to the potential of custom sustainable homes. Over two years in the making, this project reflects Enduro Builders' ongoing commitment to sustainable, energy-efficient construction. By integrating cutting-edge technologies, sustainable materials, and thoughtful design, the home sets a new standard for what is possible in environmentally conscious housing.

To win this award for the third year running is a great testament to all our staff and trades who work hard to raise the bar each and every day.”

This is the third year in a row that Enduro Builders have won for Sustainable and Environmental Construction.

A family owned and run business based in Melbourne and Macedon Ranges, Backman Builders won for their focus on homes that are aesthetically beautiful, but also efficient and healthy living spaces.

“This recognition reflects our commitment to building sustainable and healthy homes, as well as our dedication to quality, innovation, and community. With a team of high-quality, reliable and friendly trades, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and our high-end standard finishes. We love building relationships, and our aim is to work with talented and like-minded people - our clients, trades, designers and architects.”

Titanium Homes won a Master Builders Queensland Award for Passive House 2 in Harlaxton. The single-storey new-build focusses on consistent comfort, while also allowing the house to be opened up or closed up to take advantage of external conditions.

“Congratulations to all the team that worked on our beautiful award winning passive house. This is the second time we have taken out the win in this category and it means just as much as the first time.”
