Background and Brief

This Passive House blends old and new. We are aiming for Passive House Plus certification although the front four rooms of the original 1920's California Bungalow are being retained. This has resulted in some careful consideration around the insulation, junctions and details. The rear extension and first floor provide a contrasting modern aesthetic.

Stage of the Project

This project is currently under construction and on track for Passive House certification.

Challenges Faced

Upgrading the original frontage and features of a California Bungalow to meet the passive house standard.

Favourite Features

Creating a certified passive house whilst still maintaining the original character of the California Bungalow.

The Design/Build Process

the client originally approached us wanting a sustainable home with no prior knowledge of Passive House. At first they were not sure about Passive House but after some discussions and research they quickly became fully invested in the process.

The Brief

To design an inviting, sustainable home for a family with 3 young children. Whilst maintaining the original character through the front of the dwelling, that opens out to a modern and spacious living areas connected to the garden.
